Windows XP Performance Tips
Remove Visual Effects
Windows XP comes pre installed with many Visual Effects, maybe you have no problem with them, but if you have a system that isn't able to handle the Visual Effects or you want to squeeze out as much system resources as possible so you can allocate them for other programs you have the option to remove them to get some better system performance. Here are some steps to help you remove unwanted Visual Effects, keep in mind the fisher price looking interface will be lost and replaced by the classic Windows grey taskbar.
Step 1 : Right mouse click on "My Computer" and select "Properties"

Step 2 : In "System Properties" select the "Advanced" tab

Step 3 : In the "Advanced" tab section under "Performance" select "Settings"

Step 4 : In "Performance Options" section select "Adjust for best performance" radio button and click the "Apply" button and then the "Ok" button

Thats it, now if you decide you want to go back to the previous settings just follow the same steps and select "Let Windows choose what's best for my computer" option.
